Tablet Computers – What Is On The Market

With the introduction of the Ipad, a whole new market has opened up for Tablet computers, and all the biggest players are now presenting their versions.  With all the fuss about the Ipad, many people aren’t aware of some of the great alternatives available.  At CES this year a number of tablets were being presented, and I thought it would be a good idea to show everyone what will soon enough be available.

Motorola has one of the most impressive tablets in the works.  It’s a 10 inch Android tablet, and it has some strong computing power.  It also has the added benefit of both a front and rear facing camera that are 2 and 5 megapixels.  It has an incredibly sleek design, and once Google releases their OS for tablet this one should be a pleasure to use.

For the business user you should take a look at the Blackberry PlayBook.  With a dual core 1 GHz processor, this tablet has computing power to spare.  At 7 inches it is a little smaller than a lot of the other tablets on the market, but it is built sturdy and perfect for business and travel.  The tablet computer also comes with a front and rear facing camera, one of those great options most people wish the Ipad came with.

The Dell Sreak 7 is a tablet pc worth mentioning as well.  It has all the fancy bells and whistles like a front and rear facing camera, and a Tegra 3 processor.  If you are looking for something more compact than this 7 inch tablet may eventually be the one for you.  This is also the first tablet that can access T-Mobile’s 4G network, which means plenty of speed.  The display on the early model though may leave you asking for more, it’s WVGA screen definitely won’t appear as impressive as many of it’s competitors.

Then there is the Asus Eee Pad Slider, which is impressive based on innovation alone.  Underneath the display there is a physical keyboard that slides right out, which is a handy benefit for those not comfortable typing on the screen itself.  It is a 10.1 inch tablet, and another one that has the Tegra 2 processor, which means that it will have lots of computing power for graphics.  When they get all the issues worked out with it’s original design, this will certainly be one worth taking a look at.

As can be seen, in the world of tablet computers there are a wide variety be worked on right now.  Coming in a variety of sizes, with a multitude of features that the Ipad hasn’t yet touched, you are sure to find something you are looking for.  It’s also great to see the competition with the Ipad, which means the Ipad will have to step up to the plate and start including some of these features in their latest models as well.

Do You Really Need A Laptop?

The focus these days is often on portable computing, however, for many homes and families a desktop computer will suffice.  Small notebook computers are more expensive than desktops, so unless you need something specifically for portability, then a desktop computer might be your best option.  We’ll take a moment now to look at the major differences between desktop computers and laptops, and hopefully you will then have a clear idea of what to look for.

One of the biggest difference, besides size of course, is the price tag.  As you can imagine, taking the larger components of a desktop computer and shrinking them down is the reason for the cost difference.  For the price of an inexpensive laptop with few features you can purchase a full featured desktop computer.

Something that many people overlook is the ergonomics.  Ergonomics refers to the science of designing workstations so they match an individual, and decrease the likelihood of injuries.  With a full desktop computer the keyboard can be placed appropriately, the monitor in the correct position, and the mouse positioned to avoid repetitive strain injuries.  With a laptop, that’s all pretty much impossible.  So if you plan on spending long hours working on your computer, you’ll have to opt for an external monitor and mouse for your laptop to avoid any unnecessary strain.

The size and quality of the monitor is another important consideration.  Many laptops these days have exceptional screens, however if you are looking for portability you have to give up screen size.  With desktop computers, and flat screen monitors, you have unlimited options with large screen sizes that are ideal for gaming or working with graphics.  So keep this in mind when making your decision.

Portability is quite an obvious point, but one that you must not forget.  If you need to use your computer outside the home, at the office, or intent to take it on trips, clearly the only option is a laptop computer.  Many people find computing on the go essential, especially those in business, and this is why there has been such an emphasis on mobile computing these days.  However, if you only need the computer at home then there is no reason to jump on the bandwagon and start shopping for small notebook computers.

With those factors in mind take a moment to question exactly what you will be using your computer for.  Laptops aren’t better than desktops, or vice versa, the best choice is the computer that will meet your specific needs.  So shop smart, ask yourself and your family what you really need, and then head out and educate yourself on the available options that will be best for you.

High End Laptop Reviews

If you have the money to spend, then it’s a good idea to make sure you spend it in the right place.  When it comes to high end laptops, we’re talking about laptops costing in excess of 1 thousand dollars.  There are a great deal of them on the market, and depending on what you’ll be using your computer for, it’s important you make the right choice for you.

We’ll start by looking at the brand new MacBook Air.  While a bit expensive for an 11 inch laptop, this ultraportable has an excellent design, and great trackpad and keyboard combo.  If price isn’t an issue, and you don’t mind switching to the Macintosh camp, then this computer is the way to go.  It boots quickly, has an excellent battery life, and it’s styling is superior to most.

The HP Envy 17 should be anybodies choice if you are looking for a laptop with a large display.  It has a great design, and a full 1080p display, and an included Blu-ray drive.  Unlike most 17 or 18 inch laptops, it’s actually quite slim, and it has an oversized touch pad that is reminiscent of those found on the Macbook Airs.  With an amazing display, and great speaker system by laptop standards, this is an excellent multimedia computer.

If you’re looking for a gaming machine, that comes in a compact design, then the Alienware M11x might be the best computer for you.  With Nvidia Optimus technology, and an updated processor this year, this computer helps fill the gap between a laptop for gaming and a small netback.  It also has an exceptional sound system for a small laptop.  A few of the downsides of this system include a lack of an optical drive, no VGA port, and it is fairly thick for a portable laptop.

If you’re looking for over the top luxury, then the $3,400 Sony Vaio VPCZ128GX may be the computer for you.  It it leaps and bounds ahead of the other laptops mentioned in price, but with a 512 GB solid state hard drive which alone goes for the price of it’s competitors, it does have a lot to offer.  It’s 13 inch display has a higher than normal resolution, and a build in Verizon 3G connection, amongst other features.  This is the ultimate machine for heavy graphics and processing power.

So if you have the money to spend it may be worth your while to check out more details on these different laptops.  If you are looking for excellent styling, above average processing power, and systems designs to do more than just surf the internet, there are certainly some great options available.  While we touched on a few of those options here, take the time to do some research yourself as well.  If you intend on spending a fair amount of money on a small laptop computer then it’s best if you know all the facts and options available to you.

Budget Laptop Reviews

The amount of small notebook computers available on the market today is incredible.  Many people will find it very overwhelming when looking for a new computer.  I am going to take a look at some great options when considering computers for $600 or less.  These are great systems for the average user who will simply be searching the internet, sending emails, and browsing photos.

Let’s first take a look at the Toshiba Satellite T215D-S1140RD.  This is a great entry level notebook, that performs better than most notebooks, and has a wide variety of ports available that you may only expect on a larger computer.  You can purchase this laptop for approximately $450, and it comes with an 11.6 inch screen and 1.5 GHz processor.  Overall this computer is great for the average user, but has an unimpressive battery life and a fairly poor speaker systems, so take that into consideration if looking into purchasing.

If you’re looking for a machine with a larger screen, then the Acer Aspire AS7741Z-4643 may be the way to go.  With a 17 inch screen, and a price around the $500 mark, this is an excellent option for replacing a desktop computer.  If you are looking for something more portable than a full PC, but don’t want to give up a decent size screen, this will likely be your best option.

The Dell Inspiron M101z offers a great combination of price and performance.  The battery life is only average, but it is much faster than most notebook computers the same size.  I would class this computer as a premium netback, with far more features than most in the ultraportable category.  Dell has long been a strong player in the laptop market, and with this computer coming in at under $600 you will be hard pressed to find an equal competitor.

With a great sized keyboard, well priced, and fairly powerful, the Gateway LT3201u is another excellent option when considering low priced laptops.  At less than $450, this laptop has many features above and beyond the simple entry level notebook.  If you’re not a fan of downgrading to a small cramped keyboard, you’ll be pleased with the keyboard on this machine.  In terms of size, price, and computing power, this is a well rounded machine that will suite most people’s needs.

As can be seen, with most discount computers you will be making a few sacrifices.  I tried to present a few great well rounded options, and depending on what you are looking to use the computer for, one of the above options should suit your needs.  Take some time to do a little research, and you will be pleased to see how you can get your hands on some great small notebook computers at relatively low prices.

Macbook Air Review

So for some time now everyone has been talking about the new Macbook Air.  The chatter and excitement has subsided a bit, so now I figured it was a good time to step back and take an objective look at this computer.

If you’re a Macintosh fanatic, you’ll probably love it either way, but for those PC users out there who are wondering what all the fuss is about, let’s take a look so you can make your own decisions.  There are plenty of small notebook computers on the market, and this is one you should keep your eye on.

When the Macbook came on the market it promised a lot, and admittedly, delivered on most of it’s promises.  It’s smaller than the average netback, has all sorts of computing power, and does this all at a reasonable price.  With great battery performance, flash storage, large multi touch trackball, and high resolution display, it is a fairly impressive machine.

The first thing anybody notices with the Air it’s sleek design.  Not only good looking, but it’s also very strong as it’s built out of a single unit aluminum body.  It has all the standard ports you would expect, including two USB ports, which is a definite bonus.  With the aluminum body, and minimal thickness, the weight of this laptop puts most of the competitors to shame.

When dealing with small lightweight computers, portability is the first thing to consider, but battery life is definitely one of the most important aspects.  Apple claims that the Air can stay in sleep mode for up to 30 days, which is fairly impressive on it’s own.  On top of that, the Macbook can stay on for about 10 hours, and in most tests it lasts for about 7 hours when browsing the web and checking emails.  For a computer of it’s size, the battery performance is quite impressive.

In terms of processing power, the 11″ Macbook Air comes with a 1.4 GHz Core Duo processor.  It has been optimized to consume less power, and when paired with solid state drive, and a great graphics processor, the performance is definitely impressive.  Again, for a laptop of this size, it definitely stand ahead of the competition.

So now lets take into consideration it’s size and speed, and compare that to it’s price.  Many manufactures have followed the consumers assumption that small, lightweight, laptop computers should be low priced and low on performance.  The Macbook Air entered the market with a system that is smaller and lighter weight than many of the cheap notebooks on the market, but has great components and is well built.  Yes, you will end up paying a little bit more, but if you want and impressive laptop then it might just be your best choice.

Options to Consider – Small Notebook Computers

With the emergence of so many tablet computers on the market, the focus has shifted away from small notebook computers.  However, there are still many great systems coming out on a regular basis.  It’s also best to realize and keep in mind that many of the tablets available, such as the Ipad, will not completely erase the need for a notebook.

So there are several options you must consider when shopping for your next computer.  If you’re simply looking for a device for consuming media, and by that I mean activities like browsing the web and watching movies, then a device like the ipad may be best for you.  However, if you want something you’ll be using for word processing or intense gaming, then you will certainly have to look for a laptop.  In this article we are going to focus on the options when considering a laptop.

The first thing to consider is your budget.  You can get some very functional notebooks for under $600, and if you don’t need to do any heavy processing than these should suffice.  At the other end of the spectrum, you can expect to pay upwards of 2 to 3 thousand dollars for a top of line notebook with enough computing power to tackle the most intense graphics and computing.  So it’s important that your budget matches up with your needs.

Size is always a big factor to take into consideration as well.  If you’re looking for a full features machine in a small sleek notebook, then expect to pay quite a bit.  However, if you just want something for browsing the internet and checking emails, you can often get very small notebook computers that will perfectly suit your needs.  If you’re a gamer, and you want a decent size screen to enjoy the action, you will of course have to give up on portability.

The finer details like hard drive size, processor speeds, and screen refresh rates and resolutions can all be a bit mind numbing at times.  I would say all computers on the market today are built with enough resources for the average internet user, so you often won’t have to worry yourself with these details.  If you have specific needs for heavy graphics, then you’ll like have a good understanding of the specifications you’ll be looking for.  The main thing is to educate yourself, and don’t be convinced by a salesperson that you need something more powerful, and more expensive, when the only benefit to doing so is the commission the salesperson is getting!

When it comes to brands, there are certainly a wide variety available, all with their ups and downs.  My only recommendation in this department would be to go with with of the major brand names and you should be fine.  Stick to brands like Acer, Macintosh, Dell, Toshiba, HP.  All these brands have good reputations, reliable customer service, and reasonable prices.

The number one take away point from this article is simply to educate yourself on the options available.  Take a moment to think about what the computer will be used for, what kind of budget you have, and then do some research online before heading to a local store.  If you’re not sure about what a salesman is selling, then don’t hesitate to search for a second opinion.  Remember, you will like be using your new computer on a daily basis, so it’s important you make the right decision!

The Best Notebook Computers To Consider

When it comes to searching out the best notebook computers, it’s important to understand that best is a relative term.  Ask any Mac fanatic, and you’ll likely get the answer that the new Macbook Air is the only way to go.  However, ask a PC fanatic, and you’ll obviously get a much different answer.  Therefore, it’s important to identify what factors are important for you.

The first factor to consider for most people is cost.  The best option for you may be the cheapest, or alternatively the most expensive.  It all comes down to budget!  Now a days you can get a laptop that ranges anywhere from $300 to $3000, so it’s important you weight your options in terms of what you’re getting for the price.

Size is certainly an important consideration for many people.  Generally speaking, the smaller the laptop, the pricier they become if you’re hoping for the same features that are available on those models that are a touch larger.  The Macbook Air and the Toshiba Portege R500 are two great options for anyone looking for very small and lightweight computers.  There are also a number of notebooks, which come with very few features, but a very reasonable price tag and size.

Are you looking for something for intense gaming?  Or a computer just for browsing the internet?  Again, this will greatly change which computer is best for you.  If you want a high resolution monitor and lots of computing power for games, expect to pay a little more.  You may also then want to consider a slightly larger laptop with a screen big enough to enjoy the action.  Alternatively, a small screen with low resolution will certainly suffice for anyone simply looking to browse the internet and check emails.

So as you can see, there are many options to consider when decide which options would be the best notebook computer for you.  Take your time and education yourself on the options.  Ask yourself, what will I primarily be using the laptop for?  Then take the time to shop around, and ask as many questions as you can when speaking with sales agents, or on the many available forums on the internet.

PC Alternatives to the Macbook Air

In terms of small notebook computers these days, of course all of the focus is on the shiny new Macbook Air.  With good reason I do admit, as it’s an amazing piece of technology, and it doesn’t get much better in terms of small mobile computing.  However, there are still some great options available for those looking for Macbook Air alternatives.  Let’s take a quick look at the new Macbook Air, and then some great PC alternatives.

One of the greatest things about the Air is it’s ultracompact size.  Even the larger 13 inch is much smaller than many of it’s competitors, with a size and weight that would have been unimaginable only a few short years ago.  As with any small notebook computer, portability is certainly the best benefit these systems offer.

The price point for the new Air ranges from $1049 to $1649, which can be a stretch for some people, but overall is a relatively good price in terms of the value you are receiving.  With it’s all-flash storage, long lasting battery, high resolution display, and multi-touch trackpad it’s a force to be reckoned with.  It’s available with up to a 2.13 GHz processor, and you can get up to 4GB of memory.

Macbook Air Alternatives

If you’re looking for a PC alternative, and you have the money to spend, then the Toshiba Portege R500 is the way to go.  It’s lighter, smaller, has more features in terms of inputs/outputs (ie. 3 USB inputs, DVI video port, etc.).  The screen on this PC is a bit smaller than the Air’s, and the price tag is a little higher, however it is definitely a great option to look into.

Are you not concerned about being ultra slim?  Well then, the Acer 3810 may be the PC for you.  It has an 8 hour battery life, 4GB of ram, 500GB hard drive, and a variety of ports.  It is approximately 1 inch thick, but you can this excellent portable device for only $768!

Remember, there are a number of Windows alternatives.  With Toshiba recently offering solid state drives, they are close on the heels of the new Mac technology.

So Apple definitely raised the bar with the introduction of the Macbook Air to the market, but for PC users there are still many Macbook Air alternatives that offer additional features you won’t find on the Mac.  If you’re a Mac Addict, then the Air will be the clear choice in your eyes, but for all you PC lovers that are avoiding switching platforms, you won’t be left behind.

With the ever increasing demand for flexibility of the humans to be in touch with their business all the time and everywhere they travel around, there has been a consistent increase in the market prospects for the small notebook computers, so that they could easily be carried along where ever they go, without the need to essentially put a brake on their business even though the people themselves are on a break.

With so many brands entering the market every other day, the segment has become even more competitive. There can be seen a flood of amazing features surrounding the notebooks every time a new model is launched. Some brands even have free laptop offers in the markets and even over the internet.

Nowadays, the small conventional notebook personal computer can be seen to be a combination of a complete family entertainment system with the capability of performing high end business oriented tasks. Each of your family members would be able to find a relevant feature according to his or her taste.

The small notebook computers have, thus, issued a new wave in the computing industry that has changed the entire face of the computers, from a regular main frame machine to being just a personal digital assistant (PDA) device inside your pocket.

Thanks to the competition in the market and the research in the field of silicon chips that has caused the otherwise high end and massively sized machines to fit inside your hands, pockets, laps or desks. With such fast developments, the day is not far enough when the computers could be easily found embedded everywhere in our environment and still the humans would be unable to notice their presence.

Long live the computing industry and may God bless the researchers with sharp brains to make this dream like situation come true very soon.
