PC Alternatives to the Macbook Air

In terms of small notebook computers these days, of course all of the focus is on the shiny new Macbook Air.  With good reason I do admit, as it’s an amazing piece of technology, and it doesn’t get much better in terms of small mobile computing.  However, there are still some great options available for those looking for Macbook Air alternatives.  Let’s take a quick look at the new Macbook Air, and then some great PC alternatives.

One of the greatest things about the Air is it’s ultracompact size.  Even the larger 13 inch is much smaller than many of it’s competitors, with a size and weight that would have been unimaginable only a few short years ago.  As with any small notebook computer, portability is certainly the best benefit these systems offer.

The price point for the new Air ranges from $1049 to $1649, which can be a stretch for some people, but overall is a relatively good price in terms of the value you are receiving.  With it’s all-flash storage, long lasting battery, high resolution display, and multi-touch trackpad it’s a force to be reckoned with.  It’s available with up to a 2.13 GHz processor, and you can get up to 4GB of memory.

Macbook Air Alternatives

If you’re looking for a PC alternative, and you have the money to spend, then the Toshiba Portege R500 is the way to go.  It’s lighter, smaller, has more features in terms of inputs/outputs (ie. 3 USB inputs, DVI video port, etc.).  The screen on this PC is a bit smaller than the Air’s, and the price tag is a little higher, however it is definitely a great option to look into.

Are you not concerned about being ultra slim?  Well then, the Acer 3810 may be the PC for you.  It has an 8 hour battery life, 4GB of ram, 500GB hard drive, and a variety of ports.  It is approximately 1 inch thick, but you can this excellent portable device for only $768!

Remember, there are a number of Windows alternatives.  With Toshiba recently offering solid state drives, they are close on the heels of the new Mac technology.

So Apple definitely raised the bar with the introduction of the Macbook Air to the market, but for PC users there are still many Macbook Air alternatives that offer additional features you won’t find on the Mac.  If you’re a Mac Addict, then the Air will be the clear choice in your eyes, but for all you PC lovers that are avoiding switching platforms, you won’t be left behind.
